About Mr. Beatty

My name is Richard Beatty. I have worked for the Riverbank Unified School District for 23 years.

I have taught the following grade levels:

2nd Grade

3rd Grade

4th Grade

5th Grade

High School (All Grades Independent Study)

This is my second year back teaching fifth grade. I previously taught Fourth Grade for five years. Before that, I taught 5th Grade for two years (one year at Mesa and one at California Avenue). Before that, I taught Independent Study at the High School for 6 years. I also helped get Adelante High School up running. Before that, I taught at Rio Altura Elementary in Riverbank (which no longer exists). There I taught 5th grade for 3 years, 3rd grade for 2 years and a 2nd/3rd combination class for 1 year. Before that, I was a reading specialist at California Avenue for 1 year.

I really enjoy teaching students in all grade levels. Each group, like each child, has interesting qualities.

My Personal Life

I am married to a wonderful person. Her name is Lourdes. She is a fantastic photographer. She used to work for the Riverbank Unfed School District, but now she works in another district. I have two beautiful children. My oldest son's name is Lestat. He is 24 years old and just came back to live with us. He was living in Louisiana, but decided to come back and go to college. He loves producing music and programming computers. He is currently working toward making these interests his career. My younger son's name is Louie. He is 14 years old and will be going to high school this year. He likes playing producing his own Youtube videos and playing online games with his friends.

I am a vegan. This means I only eat food made from plants. I don't eat any meat, eggs, nor drink milk nor other liquids from animals. I don't wear any clothing made from animals, nor buy products that harm animals. I think that there is no reason to harm animals in this way, so I don't. Eating fruits and vegetables and other plants is very good for the human body and for the environment in which we live.

I play guitar. I bought my first guitar with my first check from my first job. I currently have three guitars, two acoustic and one electric. I was about 18 years old when I started playing. I practice nearly every day and I play with friends who come over to my house every two weeks. We have lots of fun!

I exercise. I take long rides on my bicycle once a week with friends. My family and I love to go on walks around Modesto and hikes up in the mountains. We go camping every summer at Pike Crest Lake. We love to go swimming and kayaking in the lake and hiking around it while we are there. It is really quite the spectacular view at the top of those a mountains!

I love to read. I read every day. I love reading research on educational things. I love history, especially ancient Rome and Egypt. I read about business and economics. I read loads of science. I am particularly interested in the universe and life on earth. I used to read a lot of fiction. I need to get back into that.
