We start Complex Sentences this week!!
A Complex Sentence has one Independent Clause and one or more Dependent Clauses.
An independent clause is a simple sentence.
A dependent clause is a groups of words with a subject and verb that cannot stand alone. A dependent clause is essentially an independent clause that starts with with a subordinating conjunction.
Complex Sentence Example: After I went to the movies, I stopped to get something to eat.
Formula: D, I
"After I went to the movies" is a Dependent Clause.
"I went to the movies" is an independent clause.
"After" is a subordinating conjunction.
"I stopped to get something to eat" is an Independent Clause.
